We love the change, the challenge, and the variety that comes with constantly being on the move, but we do occasionally miss knowing our way around. Stumbling upon this family-run restaurant in Quito helped us feel grounded. We found comfort in their food and their company and felt truly welcomed. Sometimes what seem like the most banal, everyday moments, like having breakfast, can become some of the most powerful memories, if you’re open to it.
Sometimes you just have to spice it up! We found ourselves bored with the same old breakfast and decided to get a bit creative. Volcano eggs are easy to prepare, cheap, healthy and they don’t take too much time.

Beets are one of my favorite foods. Not only are they deliciously rich in vitamin C, vitamin B, fiber, and potassium, but they also add life to one’s plate with their bright colors.
There are a few reasons why we fell in love with this dish: It is easy to make, nutritious, inexpensive, and you can find the ingredients in this list almost anywhere.
When you are on the go for so long, it is important to have good and healthy food that’s also easy to transport and, most importantly, not messy while eating. Empanadas are perfect for that! Beach day, chicken bus, loads of driving, hiking, you name it!
It is impossible to be bored in Mexico City, there’s always something to be done. If you like to dance, you can be sure there are dance classes within walking distance of where you are staying. You like food? There’s a myriad of affordable and delicious places within a 3-block radius. Don’t feel like walking? Just wait on the street long enough and some tacos de canasta will come by. It’s always a pleasure to show my city to friends!
